The Gili Islands are a small group of tropical islands just off the coast of Lombok, Indonesia. Known for clear water, coral reefs, and a relaxed island lifestyle, they’ve become a favorite stop for travelers exploring Bali and beyond.
There are three islands: Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno. Each has its own vibe, but all share the same things that make the Gilis special — no cars, warm water, and easy access to some of the best diving in Indonesia.

How to Get to the Gili Islands

From Bali
Most travelers arrive from Bali by fast boat. Boats depart daily from Padang Bai, Serangan, and Sanur, depending on the company and season.
Travel time usually ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on sea conditions and departure point. Tickets can be booked online in advance or arranged through hotels and travel agents in Bali.
From Lombok
Coming from Lombok is the fastest and simplest option.
Fast boat from Bangsal Harbor: around 15–20 minutes
Public boat: cheaper but departs when full.
If you’re flying into Lombok International Airport, it’s about a 2-hour drive to Bangsal Harbor.
Arrival on the Islands
Boats arrive directly at the main pier of each island. On Gili Trawangan, everything is within walking distance, and there are no cars or motorbikes. You’ll get around on foot or by bicycle.
Accommodations are easy to reach from the harbor, and the island is simple to navigate even on your first visit.
